Get to know Emilie Roy - Track Cyclist
Get to know the ATP Lab supplement brand and the athletes who represent our lifestyle through our new exclusive interviews.
ABOUT THE ATHLETE
Emilie Roy is a Canadian track cycling athlete. She has been practicing her sport since 20o6 and started at the age of 21 years old. She took her classes in the master category, where she set Canadian records. In 2017, she made the jump to the elite, the best category in Canada. She also ranked top 2, 3 and 4 for the best category in the country in 2017, while reconciling her training with a full-time job. Her main goal: to go as far as possible in her sport without neglecting any detail. Eventually, she would like to be part of a UCI track team.
WHAT IS THE ONE WORD THAT DESCRIBES YOU BEST?Emilie: If I can, I will choose three: Passionate, persevering and alive.
WHAT IS YOUR TOP-3 FAVORITE ATP LAB SUPPLEMENT PRODUCTS?Emilie: 1. Myoprime 2. EAA 3. MindMag
When did you start your career as an elite amateur?Emilie: On the road in 2006 and on track in 2015!
IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ANOTHER CAREER OR SPORT WHAT WOULD IT BE?Emilie: Very tough question, because cycling is my passion... I would say tennis (for the quality of the sport) or a Ninja Warrior (it’s a nice challenge to take up haha!).
WHAT OR WHO MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE AN ACTIVE AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?Emilie: Being active has always been a way of life for me. When I was young, I practiced several sports in a recreational way: gymnastics, cycling, hockey, soccer, tap dancing, tennis and so on. My philosophy is that you must be passionate about an activity or sport to have a healthy life.
WHEN IT COMES TO OUR PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT FLAVOURS, WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER?
Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry or Salted Caramel?Emilie: For the beef protein I am currently using: salted caramel.
WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON THE USE OF ILLEGAL OR UNCONTROLLED DRUGS IN CERTAIN SPORTS SUCH AS THE FITNESS WORLD?Emilie: In Olympic sports, like mine, it is very unfortunate to compete against athletes using enhancing drugs. Unfortunately, society wants to see world records, human achievements and that leads some athletes to go beyond their physical ability.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE?Emilie: To have started my cycling career earlier.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS HERO?Emilie: Several athletes inspire me, such as Mark Cavendish, a professional cyclist on road and track. His talent, his passion, his sprinter skills are remarkable. Lori-Ann Muenzer, the only Canadian Olympic track sprint medalist, at the age of 39. I do not know her, but her career inspires me, because it reminds me of mine. She started later than most athletes and she has had a lot of difficulties because of her atypical career, just like me. Finally, those who know me well already know that Drew Doughty, NHL player for the Los Angeles Kings, is by far one of my favorite athletes.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT COMPETING?Emilie: The adrenaline that I can not get elsewhere. I also like to see how far my body and my mind can go each time and to assess where I am in my journey.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO LISTEN PRIOR TO COMPETING?Emilie: I have provided you with the playlist I listen to before my races. I would like to add a motivational video that I watch almost every time: I am a champion (football motivation). Question 12
IF YOU HAD SUPERPOWERS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SUPERHERO NAME?Emilie: I would love to be the fastest in the world, just like Sonic from Sega Genesis. Haha!
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE OR FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?Emilie: The truth? ... I'll let you guess
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH GOALS FOR THIS YEAR?Emilie: I would like to maintain my weight to improve my velocity, my power and my speed. I previously weighed 12 more pounds and it was too much to carry on my bike. Everyone needs to find the right ratio to generate speed.
DO YOU BELIEVE THAT WOMEN ARE WELL REPRESENTED IN THE SPORTS AND FITNESS INDUSTRIES?Emilie: In my opinion, women are increasingly taking their place in the world of cycling and, for the most part, they are very good ambassadors. Like Kristina Vogel, in track cycling, an athlete and a woman whom I respect enormously. Obviously, there is always room for improvement, but women must take their place.
What are the biggest challenges for an elite amateur athlete?Emilie: I'm going to speak for track cycling, this discipline needs to be better known throughout Canada, especially because it's not part of our culture. We must build the necessary infrastructure to help better develop athletes and be well represented internationally. Question 17
What is your favorite bike company or model?Emilie: I currently ride with an Argon 18 Electron Pro, but I will soon ride with the S1NEO brand, which is designed in France.
WHY ATP LAB?Emilie: ATP Lab shares my values of health and of very advanced science in the sports field. Quality, purity and integrity, that's what I look for in the products I consume to be healthy and respect the anti-doping rules of my sport. ATP Lab is part of my training plan.
IN A FEW WORDS, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FANS WHO SEEK A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?Emilie: The only word you need to remember is passion. Find a passion and everything will become easier. Your healthy lifestyle will come naturally and be integrated into your everyday life. Feel free to write to me for advice or to share your achievements!
