ABOUT THE ATHLETE

Owner and head honcho of Bodhi Fit. Avid BJJ fanatic and competitor. Have been in the strength and conditioning world for more than 20 years and working out for more than 30 years. Author of “The Strength Code” and upcoming book “Roll Strong(er)” for BJJ athletes available in the next few months. Working with athletes of all levels and ages, executives as well as regular Joe’s. Father of two beautiful children of 12 and 8.


Question 1

WHAT IS THE ONE WORD THAT DESCRIBES YOU BEST?
Eric: Since I had no clue, I asked my friends and they all said: “Authentic”.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP-3 FAVORITE ATP LAB SUPPLEMENT PRODUCTS?
Eric: Although I use a lot of them, narrowing it down to 3 would go as follow: Growth factor: helps me stay focus during the day and through my sparring sessions. Optisom: Only thing that gets me off the adrenaline of rolling and living my passion everyday. Fish oils: I’m not getting any younger and BJJ is not the sport that will spare your joints so fish oils will keep my joints healthy.

What is the most rewarding part of being a coach?
Eric: Being able to change lives. What we do in this life echoes in eternity, so I want to make sure that the message and tools I leave behind have the power to help many people. It’s much more than just a simple job, it always was a true passion, not only helping people, but making them perform to their best.

If you could choose another career or sport what would it be?
Eric: Bodyguard. Once, I was given the opportunity to train with and train bodyguards and I absolutely loved it. Life decided otherwise.

What or who made you want to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle?
Eric: First, Charles Poliquin has always been a mentor and a friend, so it was imperative for me to follow this path. Along the way, a very close friend of mine died of cancer and it became a turning point in my life. I swore to him that I would do everything in my power to guide people toward good health and performance.

WHEN IT COMES TO OUR PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT FLAVOURS, WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER?

Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry or Salted Caramel?

Eric: Chocolate

Can you name three essential exercises you would suggest to every client and why?
Eric: Peterson step up, for knee stability. Seated row to neck for postural reasons and the prowler, to teach some lessons.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Eric: Being able to apply what I know now, 20 years ago.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS HERO?

Eric: I had the chance to train Martin Brodeur for many years and I got to know the man behind the mask. A true model of consistency and dedication.

Up and at it - what is your morning routine?

Eric: All I need to start my day right is to have breakfast with my kids.

What is your favorite song to listen to while training?

Eric: I don’t listen to music when I train. However, right before sparing or fighting in competition, I listen to “Don’t sweat the technique” by Eric B. & Rakim.

If you had super powers, what would they be and what would your superhero name be?

Eric: Always keep my cool and I would be called Super Cool! Haha!

WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE OR FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?

Eric: Sushi

As a fitness coach, how do you develop trust with your clients and keep them motivated?

Eric: Like my friends say, I’m authentic, so what you see is what you get. I am very straight forward, and I don’t operate a daycare. If you can’t manage to kick yourself in the ass to show up to the gym, I can’t do anything for you. But once you are in my house, I will make sure you have the time of your life. Even though it is not the place to talk or chit-chat, I’m always open to listen to my clients over any issues they may have and help them with the best of my abilities.

What was your most successful or rewarding project? Athlete or team you worked with?

Eric: Seeing my son win gold in taekwondo and when Martin Brodeur won gold in the Olympics are at the top of my best memories.

People who know our brand and read our blog know that you write weekly articles for ATP Lab. What motivates you to find these interesting topics and how does your experience as a trainer helps you write?

Eric: Every day I receive questions from clients or online and I read a lot. Whether it is about my own questions or those of my clients, I always have interesting topics that goes through my head.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Eric: Follow your passion and find a little time for yourself everyday. That’s why I make sure I train BJJ every single day. It keeps me on my feet.

WHY ATP LAB?

Eric: I believe in quality and constant improvement. This company represents what I believe in. I also happen to know Vincent Comtois for more than 20 years. We believe in the same things and we have a lot of respect for each other. The choice was obvious.

IN A FEW WORDS, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FANS WHO SEEK A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?
Eric: Once you start, never look behind and always show up. Never stop. It’s not a temporary fix, it’s a life time commitment.
